Wom strengthens its internet via FTTH offer with new 100 mbps plan in Chile

Chilean mobile operator Wom has officially announced through its official website the launch of a new internet plan via FTTH with up to 100 mbps with symmetric speed -that is, it supports the same upload and download speed-, for CH $ 9,990 (USD 14) per month.

The new plan is added to two others previously launched: one of them includes internet via FTTH with up to 300 mbps with symmetric speed for CH$ 14,990 (USD 21) per month; and the remainder offers FTTH internet with up to 600 mbps, also with symmetric speed, in this case for CH$ 18,990 (USD 27) per month. In the three offers, Wom will not charge the subscription to the plan during the first month for those clients who hire them until March 31st. Up to now, Wom is launching its internet plans via FTTH in Santiago de Chile and Valparaiso.

‘We want to democratize internet access in the country and match the digital field through connectivity. Our access into the home market has the same spirit as our access into the mobile market, so we will continue working to deliver a good service at fair prices. We did it with mobile telephony and now it is the fiber turn’, reported Christopher Laska, CEO at Wom.

In April 2020, the Chilean Subsecretaria de Telecomunicaciones (Subtel) awarded Wom five of the six macrozones of the ‘Fibra Optica Nacional’ project, which includes the deployment of 10 thousand FTTH kilometers in the country. The network is expected to be ready in 2022. Another of the projects that Wom is working on is to enter the pay TV market through ‘Wom TV’. In addition, as reported by the Android TV Guide website, Wom will use an STB to launch its offer, called ‘Wom TV Box’, which supports IPTV and OTT as broadcasting modes. The company that made Wom’s STB is SEI Robotics, and its SoC is Amlogic S905X2. In addition, although Android TV Guide reports that the device is only compatible with Netflix, from the specialized website Pisapapeles they reported in 2020 that the STB’s remote control supports voice commands and direct access buttons to Netflix, YouTube, Wom TV and Google Play.
