Chilean mobile operator WOM is moving forward in launching its new TV offering, known as WOM TV. According to the information reported by the specialized website Pisapapeles, Wom’s new service is currently in a beta phase and, to launch the offer, the company will use a new STB. In addition to the new device, in May this year, the WOM TV app appeared on Google Play, showing its first trial versiones. Android TV Guide reports that the new STB is called ‘WOM TV Box’, although no company executive confirmed the information.
In addition, as reported in the Android TV Guide website, the new WOM STB supports IPTV and OTT as broadcasting modes. On the other hand, according to Pisapapeles, the device’s operating system is Android TV. Apart from that, the WOM TV’s beta version includes linear TV channels (some of them are Canal 13, Mega, Chilevisión, TVN, CNN Chile, Mega Plus and others, all of them in HD quality), although the list is not definitive.
The company that made WOM’s STB is SES Robotics, and its SoC is Amlogic S905X2. In addition, although Android TV Guide reports that the device is only compatible with Netflix, its remote control features voice commands and direct access buttons to Netflix, YouTube, Google Play and Wom TV.
