After announcing its new leadership team and structure for the region last week, WarnerMedia Latin America reported that, from now on, TNT Sports will be its new sports content brand throughout the region, and will be led by Gustavo Minaker and Fabio Medeiros.
As reported, in this new stage, WarnerMedia’s sports division intends to renew and evolve its sports catalogs in Argentina, Brazil and Chile with a new pan-regional approach, to strengthen the company’s multiscreen offering with content that enhances the expansion of national leagues to new territories.
‘We are very proud to have taken this important step. Now, nucleated under the ‘TNT Sports’ brand, we are starting a new era for our sports division, all with the aim of getting closer to audiences, with specific offerings for each market and with everything that sports and football fans want and enjoy’, said Gustavo Minaker, Head of Sports Latam & General Manager at WarnerMedia Chile.
Fabio Medeiros, VP Sports Latin America at WarnerMedia and Head of Content at TNT Sports, has also expressed himself about the initiative developed by the company, and explained that ‘our intention is to work on the integration between Argentina, Brazil and Chile, to offer a multi-screen offering with a focus on fan engagement and promoting the development of sport in each of the countries’.
In Brazil, TNT Sports will replace Esporte Interativo, and during 2021 it will continue to broadcast matches of the country’s Professional Football League (known as ‘Brasileirão’), as well as the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Nations League, UEFA Super Cup, Italian Serie A, friendly matches of European teams and the European Qualifiers towards the next FIFA World Cup, all of them on TNT Brasil and Space Brasil screens, now under the TNT Sports production label. In addition, the SVOD OTT Esporte Interativo Plus (EI Plus) will now be called ‘Estadio TNT Sports’ from now on. In Chile, Turner (WarnerMedia) will replace the Canal de Futbol (CDF) with ‘TNT Sports’. As reported by various specialized websites in the country, the CDF HD channel will be rebranded as TNT Sports HD, while CDF Premium and CDF Basic will now be TNT Sports 2 and TNT Sports 3, respectively. In addition, the ‘Estadio CDF’ platform will also be rebranded, in this case as ‘Estadio TNT Sports’. Some of the main content that will be available on these screens will be the Chilean National Team Qualifiers for the FIFA Qatar 2022 World Cup; matches of the Professional Football League in the country; the Copa Chile; the Supercopa Chile; the 2021 Men’s Handball World Cup, to be played in Egypt, and other competitions. In the case of Argentina, the ‘TNT Sports’ brand is already available and will continue to broadcast the country’s Professional Football League as one of the main attractions, available through the ‘Pack Futbol’.
The regional launch of TNT Sports took place this last Sunday, January 17th, with the broadcasts of the Final of the Professional Football League in Argentina, which faced the Boca Junior and Banfield teams; the match that Chilean teams Colo Colo and Universidad de Chile starred in; as well as a new match between Internacional and Fortaleza due to the Brasileirão in Brazil; and a Serie A match in Italy, starred by the Inter and Juventus teams.
