Venezuela adds DTH and loses pay TV subscribers

According to the figures telecommunications field report at the end of the second quarter 2018, presented by the National Telecommunications Commission (Conatel), Venezuelan pay TV  recorded 4,651,707 subscribers. These number means a 2.84% decrease in relation to the number of subscribers in the second quarter of 2017, which amounted to 4,787,451.

The report mentions that, of the total subscribers recorded at the end of last year’s second quarter, around 2,052,407 – that is, 44.12%-  correspond to DirecTV. The company is followed by Intercable, which concentrates 14.42% of pay TV market. CanTV is located with 12.88% concentration, followed by Telefónica with 9.49%, and Neptuno, which adds 3.23%. The remaining 15.86% corresponds to other Venezuelan operators.

Satellite sector represented 67.1% of pay TV market in the second quarter of 2018, against 32.9% of cable TV. In addition, there was a stability of all operators at a general level, except from CanTV and Inter, which experienced a decline in their pay TV and DTH subscribers.
