Uruguayan State wins trial to Nuevo Siglo for a USD 85 million lawsuit

Uruguayan Justice rejected this Wednesday, October 30th the lawsuit presented by that country’s pay TV operator Riselco (Nuevo Siglo), valued at USD 85 million. The company claimed for the omission made by the Uruguayan Communication Regulatory Unit (URSEC) in the granting of data transmission and internet access licensed requested in 2008, arguing that it would become affected against international competitors.

On July 30th, 2008, the Uruguayan pay TV operator requested a class B license to be granted, in order to provide internet access and data transmission services.  

This Wednesday, the Uruguayan Justice rejected the lawsuit during the first instance. According to what was officially reported, the Uruguayan State rejected everything claimed and ‘was ready for a long ordinary trial’, when it got a favorable ruling from Justice this week.
