Twitch updates its mobile app

Social video platform Twitch announced an update to its mobile app for iOS and Android that will include a new look and features. The company said the app will soon offer the ability to begin live broadcasting directly from a smartphone camera with mobile streaming, one of most requested features by users.

In a press release, Twitch said the new app will be available to everyone in early July.  New features includes a new navigation bar for easy access to other features like “Live”, “Browse” and “Pulse”, Twitch’s new content recommendation and discovery feed.

It will also include a “Dark Mode” for a different viewing experience. In addition, users will now have the same notification center on their mobile devices as they do on the web.

“Twitch has a vibrant community on mobile, with more than 83MM installs of our app,” said Tom Robertson, Senior Director of Product Management at Twitch. According to the executive, this redesign “makes navigating the app more fun and intuitive, with all the best stuff available with a single tap or simple swipe. Not only will our creators reach a new audience through the app itself, the launch of Mobile Streaming gives them the opportunity to offer new content to their fans”.
