After several rumorous days, versions were confirmed and Mexican football team Santos Laguna officially confirmed that TV Azteca will stop broadcasting their matches played locally. They are also broadcast on ESPN, but it is unknown if the agreement will continue.
‘Thanks to Azteca Sports for awakening us the illusion through your emotional narrations during 90 minutes in each match’, says the announcement published last April 6th by Santos Laguna on its official Twitter account. In the US, Univision will not have the team’s broadcasting rights, and, at present, it is unknown which TV channel will broadcast local matches that the team plays from the beginning of the next Apertura Tournament, although there is a possibility of an eventual agreement with Fox Sports.
TV Azteca could also leave Atlas F.C. broadcasting matches, although potential stakeholders has not been announced yet. Sources close to the Mexican channel said there is a possibility for it to leave football business in 2021. At present, TV Azteca has Santos Laguna, Veracruz, Puebla, Atlas, Morelia and Chivas teams broadcasting rights matches.
