Chilean Canal de Futbol (CDF – Turner) announced that, starting today, and in a new commitment to content linked to esports, it will broadcast the Tour de Chile Esports 2020. It is a new virtual cycling competition, that will be broadcast both on the channel’s screen, as well as through different platforms, including Estadio CDF, YouTube, Facebook Live and Twitch. The competition will start today, and each Wednesday the following stages will take place until November 11th, the day on which the final of the tournament is scheduled.
‘We wanted to emulate one of the most representative events in Chilean sports, such as the Vuelta Ciclista de Chile, which in the ’80s and’ 90s was one of the largest sporting events in the world. This time, we join the broadcast of a new esports tournament, which will be the first virtual competition in the country. The idea is to replicate emotions for lovers of this sport, as they are created year after year by cyclists and the competition audience, this time, remotely and safely, but with the same great competitors as always, on stages and phases as challenging as the ones they usually walk through’, reported Robert Nicholson, CDF’s Content Manager.
As officially reported by CDF, the competition will be divided into four stages and will feature 13 teams, made up of four athletes, and an extra cyclist in case of injury. All the cyclists who will participate will be connected remotely from their homes through Zwift, a system that will connect their bicycles to electric rollers, which will deliver the pedaling information to their respective computers. Each stage will face competitors with different geographical challenges, as if it were a real competition in Chilean territories. This way, there will be forest, desert, mountain, slopes and urban areas circuits.
The Tour de Chile Esports is not Turner’s first bet on esports at CDF. During July, CDF has broadcasted the LG Mortal Kombat 11 Tournament through Estadio CDF, Facebook, YouTube and Twitch, and on TV through CDF HD, Premium, and Basic. The tournament was implemented through PlayStation 4.
