Telefonos de Mexico (Telmex) plans to add Netflix to its packages for new customers. According to what was reported by Mexican newspaper El Economista, both companies are still analyzing the details on the agreement, but the deal is ‘near to be ran’ and Telmex will keep Clarovideo as its on demand content platform, according to people close to the discussion.
At first, Telmex plans to add Netflix on MX$ 499 (USD 25) with 20 megabytes and on those of MX$ 579 (USD 30) with 30 megabytes.
Through this agreement, America Movil -which owns Telmex- will try to think of a new action plan on video platforms, due to the advance of Claro TV’s request to offer pay TV in Mexico, and the OTT Disney+, whose launch in Latin America is scheduled for next year. Apart from that, adding Netflix on Telmex packages is a way to compete with Megacable and Televisa in the broadband segment.
