After several informations reporting a possible merger between Grupo Televisa and Univision Communications, the Mexican firm informed through a press release that the information is wrong.
As reported by Televisa, the company ‘is aware of certain press reports about a possible operation with Univision’, although it pointed out that these are not true. ‘We are not in talks about a merger between Televisa S.A.B. and Univision Communications, Inc’, they reported from the Mexican company, who later stated that, in recent years, ‘both companies have sought different ways to work together in an effort to expand their successful partnership, and achieve additional efficiencies and benefits for both companies’. As an example, in July 2019, both companies officially launched the pay TV channel TUDN, focused on sports content, which has recently acquired the rights to broadcast the Copa America in Spanish.
In addition, from Televisa they explained that the companies ‘are moving forward in conversations about the possibility of combining certain content assets of Grupo Televisa with Univisión’, although they reported that ‘they cannot make sure that the operation can take place, nor the terms or the time of it’.
