Televisa creates new premium content unit, signs first deal with Amazon

Grupo Televisa announced the creation of Televisa Alternative Originals (TAO), a new unit that will develop premium content for SVOD platforms and pay TV systems. The new division has already signed a multiseries agreement Amazon Prime Video.
The Mexican company said in a statement that the new unit will have presence in Los Angeles and Mexico City. The contents created by TAO will have emphasis on multicultural characters and stories.
In its first agreement, Amazon Prime Video will hold the global SVOD rights to the series and make them available to its subscribers across more than 200 countries and territories. Televisa will have the rights for its free-to-air and pay TV platforms in Mexico, and in the United States through the Univision platforms.
“With the accelerated growth of the multi-million dollar streaming industry globally, TAO fills a gap in the market, with access and detailed knowledge of multicultural stories and Latin American talent,” the media giant said in its statement. The company will soon reveal more information about TAO and details about its series.
