As reported by specialized Mexican websites, the Copa GNP por Mexico, new football competition that started this last Friday, July 3rd and brings together eight clubs from the Mexican Professional League (Liga MX), will finally be broadcast on Televisa and TV Azteca, in addition to TUDN ( Televisa and Univision), as it had been initially announced. Apart from that, the OTT Chivas TV also confirmed that it will broadcast the matches played by that ‘Las Chivas’ in the competition.
The clubs participating in the competition are America, Pumas, Toluca, Cruz Azul, Chivas, Atlas, Mazatlan and Tigres, which are divided into two groups. Group A is made up of America, Pumas, Toluca and Cruz Azul, while group B includes Chivas, Atlas, Mazatlan and Tigres. The four teams from each group will face each other once, and the best two will move forward to the semifinals, where the two leading teams from each group will face each other. The two winning teams will play the Final of the Copa GNP por Mexico, which will take place on July 19th. All the Copa GNP por Mexico matches are played at the Estadio Olimpico Universitario, in Mexico City, and at the Estadio Akron, in Guadalajara.
In Mexico, the TV rights for official Leagues are defined together, between each club that plays as a local and the TV channels. The eight teams participating in the Copa GNP por Mexico have a current agreement with Televisa and TV Azteca. The competition will finish on July 19th, five days before the resumption of the MX League, which was canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. On June 10th, MX League’s President, Enrique Bonilla Barrutia, officially confirmed that the competition will be resumed this next July 24th.
