Telefónica Brazil ran an agreement with the US American Tower to promote its FTTH network deployment in the country. Under the agreement, American Tower will build and operate the infrastructure, while Telefónica will manage connectivity and commercialization with clients, through the Vivo Fibra brand. In addition, Telefonica presented a franchise model for fiber deployment under the Terra brand, with the aim of accelerating it in cities with more than 50 thousand inhabitants.
The project will be focused on more than 40 cities in Minas Gerais, covering nearly four million inhabitants, and with plans to reach 800 thousand HPs with the FTTH network in the next three years, according to the newspaper El País (Spain).
Fiber has become one of the key elements for Telefonica’s growth in Brazil. The company ended Q3 2018 with 10.2 million HPs with its FTTH network. In addition, according to the recently published report, in the July-September 2019 period 33 new Brazilian cities were added to its FTTH network, which was already deployed in 154.
