Telefónica’s Wayra invests in Zapping TV app

Wayra Chile, Telefónica’s investment arm, added three new firms to its portfolio and made investments of USD 500,000, El Mercurio reported. Among the companies is Zapping TV, the app to watch television online.
Zapping TV offers users the possibility to watch different packs of channels for a monthly subscription. The Colombia pack, for example, includes Caracol Internacional, RCN, RNC Novelas and NTN 24. In January, the company will launch Zapping Chile, which will feature Mega, La Red, DW and Bloomberg TV, among other channels.
The platform is currently available in Chile but in the first half of 2018, it will reach the entire region, according to TV Latina. The offer will also include international TV channels from Argentina, Mexico and Spain, such as Telefe, RTVE, 24H, Atreseries and Antena 3, among others.
“Hyperconnectivity and digitalization have changed the way we watch television, something that the Telefónica Group anticipated and that allowed us to modify the way we deliver the content, with the help of OTTs (such as Movistar Play) and new series. For this reason, we believe that innovations such as Zapping TV are in line with what new TV users via streaming seek and expect, “said Claudio Barahona, country manager of Telefónica Open Future and Wayra Chile.
The other two companies selected by Wayra are Postedin, a crowdsourcing platform for the creation of on demand digital content (such as articles, infographics, eBooks or videos), and Cloner, a service that offers an automatic backup solution for digital information.
