After launching Starzplay, its D2C app in Brazil, Mexico, France, Germany, UK, Italy and Spain, Starz announced the first four original international productions in Spanish, produced in Mexico and Spain. For Mexico, the next titles to be released are ‘Señorita Mexico’ (provisional title) and ‘Toda la sangre’.
‘As Starz continues to expand its global presence through the Starzplay platform and its international direct-to-consumer app, creating opportunities for international co-production of original content is the next step in tailoring our offering to our subscribers’, said Superna Kalle, EVP, International Digital Networks at Starz.
‘Señorita Mexico’ will be a drama set in Mexico in the 1980s, which follows competitors preparing themselves to go in for Miss Mexico, as they compete become finalists and win. The series will be directed the Argentine showrunner Lucía Puenzo, and will be produced by Fremantle, which will be in charge of its worldwide distribution, and Fabula.
‘Toda la sangre’, which will also be produced in Mexico, will be a thriller based on police novels written by Mexican author Bernardo Esquinca, which tells the story of a journalist, Casasola, who is dedicated to solving crimes in Mexico City, and comes across several murders that defy the laws of nature. The series is a co-production that partners Lionsgate and Hemisphere Media Group through its premium streaming service Pantaya, along with executive producer Zasha Robles from Spiral International, a subsidiary of Etcetera Group, and Fremantle Mexico. ‘Toda la sangre’ will be available only on Starzplay in Latin America.
