According to information officially reported by the Brazilian TV broadcaster SBT (Sistema Brasileiro de Televisão), the company, which already broadcasts Copa Libertadores matches on FTA TV in the country since last year, confirmed that it will also air the Copa America in for the Brazilian territory exclusively, as of June 13th.
The announcement was made this last Tuesday, May 18th, by sportscaster Teo Jose, during one of the SBT’s newscasts. The initiative is added to the one already announced months ago, when SBT confirmed the acquisition of the TV rights to broadcast the Champions League exclusively on FTA TV as of August, when the League’s 2021-2022 season begins, and will be valid until 2024.
In its 2021 edition, the Copa America will take place in Argentina (Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Mendoza and Santiago del Estero), and Colombia (Barranquilla, Bogota, Cali and Medellin). Although the match that will officially inaugurate the competition will be the one starred by National Teams of Argentina and Chile, on June 13th, Brazil’s debut will take place the following day, facing Venezuela at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium in Medellin. In addition, Brazil is the last champion of the competition, whose last edition was held in that country, in 2019.
