Roku to launch Roku Voice In Mexico and the US

Roku today announced the launch of Roku Voice in Mexico and the US. In Mexico, the launch is scheduled for early May, and will allow users to find their favourite entertainment options and control their streaming experience on Roku using voice commands in Spanish. The release is part of Roku OS 9.3, a free, automatic software update that will be implemented on Roku devices in the coming weeks.

‘Voice is one of the most requested features by our clients in Mexico and we are delighted to provide them with this experience’, said Arthur van Rest, International VP at Roku. ‘Today, people are streaming content in their homes more than ever, and we want it to be easier for families to quickly find their favorite shows, navigate in new ways, and easily control their experience with a focus on entertainment’, he added.

To enable Roku Voice, users will need to press the microphone or the magnifying glass button on their Roku remote controls to issue a voice command. If the already mentioned button is not available on Roku remote controls, users will need to download the Roku mobile app for free, available on iOS and Android, on their smartphones and use the microphone button, from the app. Through voice commands, apart from  searching for movies or TV shows, Roku users can also request to open DirecTV GO or Cinepolis Klic.

Roku users in Mexico will be able to control their Roku devices and Roku TVs by talking to Alexa-enabled devices and Google Assistant. In addition, the Roku app will offer the new navigation bar at the top of the mobile screen for free when users are connected to a Roku device. This provides access to Roku Search, a new icon that displays a drop-down menu designed for users to easily switch between Roku devices they want to control with their mobile app and direct access to the remote screen.

Roku OS 9.3 will soon be implemented in select Roku devices this month and is expected to release on all supported Roku devices in the coming weeks. Roku TV models are expected to receive the update in phases in the coming months. Roku Voice in Spanish and Works with Amazon Alexa and Works with Google Assistant are also expected to be available in Mexico in early May.
