According to the analysis firm Sensor Tower, the Quibi app recorded around 300 thousand downloads during the first day of operations. The OTT was officially launched this Monday, April 6th in the US, and offers content adapted for mobile devices, which lasts at least 10 minutes, and with the possibility of watching them vertically or horizontally.
Additionally, those who made a previous registration before the launch date had access to a free 90-day trial period to access the platform’s content. In the US, Quibi’s monthly subscription is valued at USD 4.99 with ads, and USD 7.99 without them. However, as Jeffrey Katzenberg, one of the creators of Quibi, reported to the specialized website Deadline, the aim of the OTT is to continue launching in more countries: ‘We will be local quickly. In success, we will roll out globally. That’s the next big opportunity for us, we want to get this out around the world. It’s a global platform, we have global rights and it’s been designed that way from day one’, he said. Up to now, the OTT only has content in English, from the US.
Quibi offers 50 contents now available, and it is expected to have 175 original titles this year. Some of the creators who filmed or will film projects for the platform are Guillermo del Toro, Steven Spielberg, Ben Stiller, Kiefer Sutherland, Idris Elba, Kevin Hart, Chrissy Teigen, Lorne Michaels, Sam Raimi and Antoine Fuqua.
