Pay TV ends Q3 2020 with almost 3.24 million subscribers in Chile

According to the latest report released by the Chilean  Subsecretaria de Telecomunicaciones (Subtel), the pay TV market in that country has ended in Q3 2020 with a total of almost 3.24 million subscribers. Although at the annual level the figure shows  a 0.9% decrease in relation to the 3.26 million subscribers reported in Q3 2019, Chilean pay TV managed to end a quarter with growth on its customer base in September 2020 after eight periods.

As reported by Subtel, of the total pay TV subscribers in Chile, 1.84 million have hired cable TV and IPTV offers, while the rest, almost 1.40 million of remaining customers choose a DTH operator.

In terms of market share, VTR (Liberty Latin America) ended Q3 2020 with the highest participation (33.1%), and more than one million customers on its subscribers base. DirecTV (AT&T) ranked second, with 22.7% of the market share and 733 thousand clients; followed by Movistar (Telefonica – 14.7%; 476 thousand subscribers) and Claro (America Movil – 11.1%; 361 thousand subscribers). The remaining 18.4% of the market share is distributed between other operators in the country, such as GTD, Mundo Pacifico and Entel Chile

‘The increase in pay TV subscribers in previous years has benefited most of the companies, due to an increase in the use and demand of this service nationwide. However, this market has stagnated itself, and it even shows a small drop during the last 12 months’, they reported from Subtel.
