Paramount+ launches ad-supported plan in the US

According to information recently reported on the specialized website Variety, Paramount+, ViacomCBS’s SVOD OTT, is launching today a new option with advertising for its subscribers in the US. Although the OTT’s SVOD version officially launched last March 4th in Latin America, up to now, the company has not reported intentions to launch a similar initiative in the region.

Paramount+’s new ad-supported offering is called ‘Paramount Plus Essential’, and its monthly subscription is valued at USD 4.99. Always according to information from Variety, the plan will include live sports including CBS-broadcast NFL games, the UEFA Champions and Europa Leagues,  but it will not carry local CBS channels, whereas CBS All Access with ads did.

In addition to sports content, the Paramount Plus Essential catalog will include on-demand titles from various ViacomCBS brands, such as BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, Smithsonian Channel, as well as news, via the CBSN news channel. .

Although the initiative was announced only in the US, ViacomCBS launched Pluto TV, its AVOD OTT, in Latin America in 2020. The initial launch of the platform took place in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Paraguay, El Salvador, Uruguay and Venezuela during the first months of 2020. Later, in December that year, the platform was launched in Brazil.
