Netflix to open offices in Buenos Aires this year

Netflix confirmed today that it will open new offices in Buenos Aires this year, in order to boost local content production in the country. Argentine specialized media had reported the initiative in mid-February, when Reed Hastings, CEO at Netflix, visited Argentina.

The OTT confirmed the news through a video available on its social networks, in which Argentine actors who will be part of Netflix productions in the country took part, and Hastings, together with Francisco Ramos, VP Original Productions at Netflix and responsible for Spain and Latin America, officially confirms the news.

‘As part of the commitment to continue betting on Argentina, Netflix will open its office in Buenos Aires in 2020. This way, we will be able to better serve our members and the local creative community, while investing in stories made in Argentina that can be accessed all over the world’, Ramos reported the Argentine newspaper La Nacion.

In the video, as well as in the event in which he participated last February in Buenos Aires, Hastings highlighted that Argentina is ‘one of the 10 most important countries’ for the OTT. ‘We produce wonderful content in Argentina, which is watched all over the world, so (opening Netflix offices in Buenos Aires) makes sense’, he said.

Apart from Buenos Aires, Netflix already has an office in San Pablo, and has recently announced it will establish its regional headquarters for Latin America in Mexico City. Hastings visited Argentina between February 18th-20th to present Netflix’s Argentine productions to be launched. They are ‘Casi Feliz’ (series); ‘La corazonada’ (movie); ‘Fangio: el hombre que dominaba las maquinas’ (documentary); ‘El Eternauta’ (series); ‘El Reino’ (series); ‘El cuaderno de Maria’ (series); ‘Vilas: seras lo que debas ser o no seras nada’ (documentary); ‘Cielo grande’ (series) and ‘Go! Vive a tu manera – 3rd session (series).
