Netflix launches its first Latin American animated series

Netflix’s first original animated series made in Latin America, called “Las Leyendas” (Legend Quest), produced by Ánima Estudios, is already available on the streaming platform in more than 190 countries and 24 languages.

The series was released on Friday, February 24. It has 13 episodes of 22 minutes and features characters from “La Leyenda de la Nahuala” (The Legend of Nahuala), “La Leyenda de la Llorona” (The Legend of La Llorona) and “La Leyenda de las Momias” (The Legend of the Mummies), but includes myths from other regions around the world.

“We approached them (Netflix) and they knew that the trilogy had been successful in Mexico and Latin America, but we dared to propose to do something much more global and they loved the idea,” said the VP of the Mexican company, José Carlos García, according to local newspaper Expansión.

Ánima Estudios has 15 years of experience in the market. According to its website, it is the first studio to create the first ever Netlix global series from Latam. Its Vice president, José Carlos García, participated last year at NexTV Series Mexico & Central America, the leading conference on next-generation TV and online video, organized by Dataxis.
