Netflix launched its new short video feature, similar to the format popularized by TikTok and Kwai, for children on its platform in Latin America. The Kids Clips segment has a short content library only available on iOS mobile devices.
In March 2021, the OTT had already introduced a similar concept when it launched Fast Laughs, a series of humorous videos with fragments of stand-up routines, which was only enabled for the iOS operating system. Meanwhile, the children’s segment would also appear to be exclusive to Apple devices, although there has not yet been a confirmation on this.
As detailed by the platform, the content for children and teens of Kids Clips will be displayed only in horizontal format and will have a control tool that will limit the number of videos viewed with a maximum of 10 clips in a row, in order to avoid excessive consumption in the young audience.
Lately, the short video format started to expand outside of traditional platforms. For example, in mid-2021 YouTube released Youtube Shorts, its own version of content in the style of Tik Tok, Kwai, and Instagram Reels. On the other hand, Netflix confirmed that the new function was also launched in the United States, Canada, Australia and Ireland, to evaluate its performance in different parts of the world.
