Mega leads the Chilean market

Mega continues to lead the Chilean market. According to financial data provided by the Bethia group to the Superintendency of Securities and Insurance (SVS), the broadcaster increased its profits in 2016, while the rest of the channels reported losses.

At the end of last year, Mega obtained profits for Ch$ 10.9 million (USD 16.4 million), 4.9% more than in 2015.

Chilevisión (Turner) increased its losses from Ch$ 6.8 billion (USD 10.3 million) in 2015 to Ch$ 8.1 billion (USD 12.16 million) in 2016. Meanwhile, TVN reported losses of Ch$ 14.5 billion (USD 21.8 million) in 2016, although this figure is lower than the Ch$ 26 billion (USD 39 million) reported in 2015. In turn, La Red reported losses of Ch$ 772 million (USD 1.15 million), a significant improvement over The Ch$ 6.1 billion (USD 9.1 million) in 2015.

Mega achieved sales of Ch$ 95.3 billion (USD 143 million), a growth of 13% compared to 2015. Chilevisión’s revenue fell 10.3% in 2016 to Ch$ 50.5 billion (USD 75.9 million), due to a 4% drop in the free-to-air TV advertising market, the channel explained. TVN reported revenues of Ch$ 48.8 billion (USD 73.2 million) and La Red obtained Ch$ 6.7 billion (USD 10 million).

Canal 13, which is controlled by Andrónico Luksic, requested a five-day extension to present its results.
