The Spanish company Mediapro ran an agreement with the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) to implement VAR technology (acronym from the so-called Video Assistant Referee) in the country’s Professional Football serie A (also called ‘Division de Honor’), to the 2020, 2021 and 2022 seasons.
‘Having fulfilled all the necessary requirements, the Paraguayan Football Association’s Executive Council decided to provide all technology services for the Assistant Video Referee or Video Assistant Referee -VAR- to the company Prom TV S.A.U. (Mediapro)’, was expressed in the oficial statement. Apart from that, the company will be responsible for the arbitration training and for the stadium’s certification to proceed with VAR’s implementation from January 2020.
Mediapro develops this technology in the Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana and the Copa America and, with this new agreement, it will also implement it in Paraguayan football for the first time. In addition to Paraguay, where Mediapro owns the Paraguayan National Team’s TV rights until 2022, the company also provides services in leagues from Chile, Mexico and other Latin American countries, in addition to the United Arab Emirates, Greece, Kuwait, Morocco and Portugal.
