Lenard Liberman acquires Univision Puerto Rico

According to an acquisition agreement document published by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Liberman Media Group, owned by Lenard Liberman, founder of LBI Media and Estrella TV, acquired Univisión Puerto Rico’s TV facilities and its repeaters for USD 1 million.

The acquisition includes channel 11 (WLII-DT) and its repeaters Channel 9 (WSUR-DT) and Channel 12 (WOLE-DT). The transaction is part of the conditions imposed by FCC to approve the 64% of Univision sale by Searchlight Capital Partners and ForgeLight LLC, since both companies have a stake in Hemisphere Media Group, parent company of Wapa-TV, competitor of Univision Puerto Rico.

According to press reports, no short-term changes are expected on channels 9, 11 and 12 programming grids.
