League of Legends arrives at FTA TV in Latin America for the first time

RCTV, Colombian Public Media System, announced a partnership agreement with Riot Games, the developer and owner of League of Legends (LoL), through which, for the first time, the Latin American League of Legends (LLA) will be broadcast on a FTA TV channel in Latin America.

As detailed in the agreement, the LLA broadcast by RTVC will be a re-broadcast of the Riot Games official channel, and can be accessed every weekend, starting this last Saturday, August 8th, through the Colombian FTA TV channel Señal Colombia, between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. (COT). This time slot will have one hour focused on LLA, which is disputed in Mexico City online, due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Latin American teams participating in the competition include Isurus Gaming (Argentina), All Knights (Chile), Xten Esports (Mexico), Furious Gaming (Argentina), Gillette Infinity Esports (Costa Rica), Azules Esports (Chile), Rainbow7 (Mexico) and Pixel Esports Club (Mexico).

‘This strategic partnership with RTVC will open two great opportunities: on the one hand, it will strengthen the LLA sustainability, but it will also help to promote Esports in Latin America in a way that has never been seen before in the region’, said Raul Fernandez, General Manager at Riot Games for Latin America. ‘We hope that this important launch will be the beginning of more stages to promote Esports in the Colombian market and in other countries of the region, not only as an opportunity to understand them as another sport, but also as a profession, which in a near future they will be as common as any job’, added the executive.
