HBO reports 10 million premium clients in Latin America

John Stankey, current CEO at WarnerMedia, said during the last WarnerMedia Day event that HBO reports 10 million premium clients in Latin America, including its pay TV and OTT operations in the region.

‘We recently announced an agreement to acquire full control of our HBO assets in Spanish-speaking Latin America, where we have approximately 10 million premium subscribers across the network and our OTT offerings’, the executive said.  The agreement excludes Brazil and makes WarnerMedia the owner of all HBO, MAX, Cinemax and HBO GO services in all Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The figure is consistent with the quarterly Dataxis analysis. At Q2 2019, in the five main markets in the region, Dataxis reported 7.9 million subscribers to the Premium linear package, an option that hired through pay TV operators. Meanwhile, the OTT HBO Go totaled 1.4 million paid accounts available in more than 20 countries. In Q2 2019, HBO Go made a strong jump in the number of subscribers because of the last season of Game of Thrones.

During the event, WarnerMedia also announced that it will launch its OTT HBO Max in May 2020, at a USD 14.99 monthly subscription in the US, with plans to expand the platform’s reach to Europe and Latin America.
