HBO Max to be launched in Latin America in June this year

WarnerMedia (AT&T) has confirmed this Thursday, February 11th, that HBO Max, its new SVOD OTT, will finally be launched in 39 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean at the end of June. With its arrival at Latin America, HBO Max begins its international expansion, after having been officially launched in the US,  in late May 2020.

‘We are very excited about the launch of HBO Max in Latin America and the Caribbean, which is the first step in bringing WarnerMedia’s D2C OTT outside the US and around the world’, reported Johannes Larcher, Head of HBO Max International. ‘Combining HBO with WarnerMedia’s best catalog of series and films and with local production contents from the main creators in Latin America, HBO Max will offer its fans in the region a rich and unforgettable entertainment experience’, added the executive.

Territories announced by WarnerMedia for the launch of HBO Max in the region are Anguilla, Antigua, Argentina, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Curaçao, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada , Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, British Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Mexico, Montserrat, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay and Venezuela.

WarnerMedia also reported that those who have the premium package with HBO channels available will have access to HBO Max. Additionally, HBO GO subscribers will automatically become subscribers to the new SVOD OTT, as the HBO GO platform will be discontinued in the region.

The HBO Max catalog will include content from international WarnerMedia brands, such as HBO, DC and Warner Bros. It will also feature content for children’s audiences, and local original productions with Latin American talent. As reported from WarnerMedia, HBO Max will also feature access to content from Cartoon Network, Looney Tunes, HBO, Warner Bros, New Line, DC, CNN, TBS, TruTV and Adult Swim. In addition, local original content will be available on the OTT under the ‘Max Originals’ brand.

Although no further details were reported, WarnerMedia informed that HBO Max will support ‘various subscription options, and  will be able to be downloaded on various devices, such as smartphones, tablets and a wide variety of entertainment platforms’.
