Jorge Nobrega, CEO at Grupo Globo, announced in an interview with the Brazilian Valor Economico newspaper that the company plans to make a R$ 1 billion (USD 237.7 million) investment in Globoplay and new technologies during 2020.
‘There are different opportunities for Globoplay compared to competitors such as Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, which, although they have global reach, focus on the series offer. Globo, on the other hand, can offer different content to its clients in Brazil, such as sports and journalistic formats’, said Nobrega.
During the interview, the executive showed his enthusiasm for the new structure of Grupo Globo, which will take effect in January. According to it, TV Globo, Globosat, Som Livre, Globo.com and DGCorp will join under one company. With the new structure, Paulo Marinho will be in charge of Globo’s channel management, while Erick Bretas will be in charge of the company’s digital products and services, and Carlos Henrique Schroder will manage Globo’s content creation and production.
