The Brazilian company Globo granted its exclusivity to broadcast the Qatar 2022 World Cup through its Globoplay streaming platform, after reaching an agreement with FIFA for the payment of the pending debt for television rights during the period of 2015 to 2022; as announced by the local newspaper Folha de S. Paulo.
After having reopened the negotiations, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube were among the first ones to show their interest, since they had previously made alliances in Brazil for the transmission of other competitions, such as the European World Cup qualifiers that were broadcast through the short video platform. In addition, Twitter, which had not yet entered this market, also showed its interest.
However, the Globoplay platform will continue to broadcast the matches, in addition to the Globo Esporte website. Meanwhile, the television coverage of Qatar 2022 will be through the TV Globo signal for open TV and SporTV for pay TV.
