Globo and Sony Pictures Television (SPT) announced a joint development and production agreement for two dramatic series in English, and plan to develop a third project, which they did not develop much information. Both titles productions will be in charge of Floresta, a joint venture with SPT, which will film the new productions in partnership with Globo Studios.
The partnership means the first joint work of the production company and the Globo Studios in the English-speaking dramatic series production. The first two, which are in a development stage, are called ‘The Angel of Hamburg’ and ‘Rio Connection’. Both content distribution rights outside Brazil will be on SPT’s hands, and it is under Globo’s responsibility to broadcast the productions on the Brazilian FTA and on other Globo Group’s platforms.
‘We are extremely excited to team up with the production powerhouse, Globo Studios, on these three projects. ‘The Angel of Hamburg’ and ‘Rio Connection’ are the latest examples of our commitment to tell compelling, locally relevant stories that have universal appeal and can resonate with audiences around the world’, said Wayne Garvie, President International Production for Sony Pictures Television.
From Globo they also expressed themselves on the agreement through its CEO, Carlos Henrique Schroder, who said that ‘The Angel of Hamburg and Rio Connection production is one more step in the path that Globo has been building as an international player in high-end drama and short format productions. We believe in the power and universality of those stories to thrill audiences around the world’.
