Sony Pictures Television (SPT) and Globo started to produce ‘The Angel of Hamburg’, the first English-language Globo production, filmed in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro, which was first announced in May 2019. This is a historic miniseries that focuses on Aracy de Carvalho, an official at the Brazilian consulate in Germany, who saved hundreds of Jews during World War II.
The miniseries is a co-production between Globo Studios and Sony Pictures Television, created and written by Mario Teixeira, in partnership with the English writer Rachel Anthony. The production is directed by Jayme Monjardim with Elisabetta Zenatti from Floresta, SPT producer, as executive producer.
‘When I knew the story of this brilliant woman, who shows us how love can overcome hate, I immediately felt myself compelled to share it with the rest of the world. Aracy is little known in Brazil and elsewhere, being remembered mainly as the wife of writer Guimarães Rosa. We hope that, through a history thought with care and respect, we can show the woman he fell in love with while serving as an assistant consul in Germany’, said Jayme Monjardim, Artistic Director of the series.
‘The Angel of Hamburg’ will debut at the LA Screenings in May this year. SPT will distribute the series worldwide outside Brazil, and Globo will broadcast the drama on the group’s platforms in the country.
