Funimation officially launches in Brazil and Mexico

According to several specialized websites, Funimation, new SVOD OTT focused on anime content, is now available in Brazil and Mexico, thus making its official arrival at Latin America. The platform was already available in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

As reported, the platform is initially available through its website, although it is expected to be available on various apps for mobile devices and devices compatible with smart TVs by 2021. Funimation’s arrival at Latin America takes place with a catalog that includes around 1,500 hours of content and 200 series and movies, including titles like ‘My Hero Academia’; ‘Attack on Titan’; ‘Overlord’; ‘Sword Art Online’; ‘Fruits Basket’ and ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’. The content will be available with subtitles in Spanish in Mexico and Portuguese in Brazil, and some titles will even be dubbed.

Regarding the value of the monthly subscription, it was reported that Funimation will be available in Brazil for R$ 24.90 (USD 5) per month or R$ 249 (USD 47) per year; while in Mexico access its catalog will be possible for MX $ 99 (USD 5) per month or MX $ 990 (USD 49) per year. In both countries, subscribers will have access to a free 14-day trial.

‘We see a large and vibrant community in Latin America that has waited patiently for Funimation to be launched in the region. We saw that it meant a lot to these fans and, therefore, we challenged ourselves to stay ahead of the launch date’, said Colin Decker, CEO at Funimation Global Group.

Although Funimation’s arrival at Latin America was initially scheduled for December, Funimation finally accelerated the launch plans for the platform, which is already available in Brazil and Mexico. Up to now, no other countries have been reported where the company will launch the SVOD OTT in the future. Some of its main competitors in the region will be Crunchyroll and Anime Onegai.
