The Walt Disney Company Latin America has officially announced this Wednesday, February 3rd, that it will rebrand Fox channels as ‘Star’ starting on the 22nd this month. In December 2020, Disney had confirmed that the change would take place in February 2021 but, up to now, no details had been given on the exact date.
This way, as of February 22nd, Fox Channel will be called ‘Star Channel’; Fox Premium will be rebranded as ‘Star Premium’; Fox Premium Movies will now be ‘Star Hits’; Fox Premium Series will be called ‘Star Series’; Fox Premium Action will be ‘Star Action’; Fox Premium Comedy will be called ‘Star Comedy’; Fox Premium Family’s new name will be ‘Star Fun’; Fox Premium Cinema will be called ‘Star Cinema’; and Fox Premium Classics will be ‘Star Classics’; while Fox Life will be rebranded as ‘Star Life’.
At the end of 2020, The Walt Disney Company Latin America had reported that, in Brazil, Fox Premium 1 will be called ‘Star Hits’; while the new name of Fox Premium 2 will be ‘Star Hits 2’.
‘Star channels will continue Fox channels legacy, leaders in the pay TV market among general entertainment options, and will continue to be the benchmark for the best series and movies in the linear area, through their vast genres’, they reported from the company.
Another of Disney’s plans for 2021 is the launch of Star+, the company’s new SVOD OTT, whose arrival in Latin America is scheduled for mid-2021. The news was announced during the Investor Day that Disney developed last December 10th. The company will report more details on the new platform soon. Disney’s most recent launch in Latin America in the OTT field is Disney +, available in the region since last November 17th.
