Etapa to stop marketing its DTH offer as of November 30th

According to several specialized websites, the Ecuadorian company Etapa, which offers telephony, internet and TV services, will discontinue its DTH offer on November 30th. According to the information reported from ‘El Mercurio’, Jaime Arce, the company’s Marketing Manager, reported that the decision was made by the board of directors and, for this reason, no new plans have been announced during the last three months.

‘El Mercurio’ has also reported that, in a report that was made by Etapa at the end of 2019, it was established that the losses due to the company’s DTH offer reached USD 7 million until 2018 and that, for the project to be continued, it was necessary to reach at least 20 thousand users. ‘There was a time when we had about 4 thousand subscribers. Now, we feature around 3,500, and that does not allow us to achieve a financial balance to sustain the service, so it is better not to continue offering it’, said the executive.

Users are being notified of the measure by a message on their TVs, or by telephone. Arce also reported that Etapa will remove the stuff from its clients’ homes, and requested that users keep the remote control, STB, antenna and  other devices since, if they do not have them, they will have to pay an extra charge. Likewise, despite the end of the DTH operations, subscribers of the ‘triple pack’ offer will keep the discount on Etapa’s internet and fixed telephony services for one year.

On the other hand, during the last days, clients of the Ecuadorian Univisa reported that the company would be making the same decision as Etapa, and would cancel its DTH offer. So far, no executive has expressed himself about it. If the information is officially confirmed, the service would be offered by CNT.
