Ecuador: Justice orders new soccer rights tender

The Ecuadorian Soccer Federation (FEF in Spanish) was ordered to launch a new TV rights tender for local tournament. According to Judge Jean Daniel Vergara, the national body transgressed the constitutional rights of equality by selecting GolTV, the company headed by the Uruguayan entrepreneur Paco Casal.
The court ruled in favor of the request for protection action made by politician Dalo Bucaram earlier this month, so the FEF must launch a new tender within 72 hours, local media reported. The defense of the Federation said it will appeal the ruling.
The agreement for the TV rights was signed in 2017 for a term of 10 years and became effective this year. Bucanam’s lawyer, Pedro Granja, said that GolTV presented its contract after the established deadline, as reported by El Universo. The president of the FEF, Carlos Villacís, defended the legality of the selection process in several opportunities.
