According to the information reported on several specialized websites in Brazil, the SVOD OTT PlayPlus (Grupo Record) will remove Disney’s linear TV channels from its catalog as of next May 31st.
The platform is reporting its subscribers through an email that Disney channels (Disney Channel, Disney XD, and Disney Jr) and ESPN’s (ESPN, ESPN Brasil, ESPN 2 and ESPN Extra) will be removed from its catalog. The already mentioned channels, today all belonging to The Walt Disney Company after the Disney-Fox merger, were available on PlayPlus since its launch in 2018, when Grupo Record announced an agreement with Disney to add its channels into its content offering.
With the decision to remove its titles from other competing streaming platforms, Disney+ becomes the only OTT available to access content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic. In addition, The Walt Disney Company confirmed that, as of June, the Latin American streaming market will add Star+, whose launch will conclude the insertion of the ‘Star’ brand in the region. In addition, since February 22nd, Fox channels have been rebranded as ‘Star’ in Latin America.
