Disney to rebrand Fox channels in Latin America as ‘Star’

As reported by several specialized websites in Latin America, Disney plans to rebrand Fox channels in the region as ‘Star’ as of February 2021. Although no Disney executive has expressed himself on the matter yet, an official announcement with more details is expected for the coming days.

The ‘Star’ brand is owned by Disney since the company officially merged with Fox in March 2019. The name will also be used for a new OTT platform that Disney plans to launch globally, according to Bob Chapeck, CEO of the company, although no further details are known at the moment.

The platform will be the second that Disney launches internationally after Disney+, which has officially arrived at Latin America on November 17th. Recently, The Walt Disney Company Latin America reported that the SVOD OTT will feature more than 70 original local productions made in countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico, which will premiere between 2020 and 2021. Fox channels rebranding in Latin America seems to confirm that the new platform will also be available in the region.
