The Walt Disney Company announced last week that it SVOD OTT platform Disney+, launched in the US last November, now records 50 million subscribers. In addition, the company reported that the platform will be launched in Latin America later this year.
‘We are truly humbled that Disney+ is resonating with millions around the globe, and believe this bodes well for our continued expansion throughout Western Europe and into Japan and all of Latin America, later this year’, said Kevin Mayer, Chairman of Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer & International.
The announced figure almost doubles the amount Disney reported on its latest financial results report, when it indicated that, three months after its launch, Disney+ had 28.6 million subscribers. In the past weeks, Disney+ rolled out in eight Western European countries including the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Switzerland. Additionally, Disney+ became available in India, where it already accounts for approximately eight million of Disney+’s 50 million subscribers.
