Disney hires Pyne Media to sell Fox Sports in Brazil

Disney hired an independent company to negotiate with potential interested parties, with the aim of selling Fox Sports in Brazil and concluding its merger with Fox. The company also decided to cut funds from Fox Sports until its sale to another media group is done. Pyne Media, ESPN’s Global Distribution former President Benjamin Pyne’s independent consultancy, will be in charge of the entire Fox Sports sales project.

The measure responds to an Economic Defense Administrative Council’s (CADE) requirement to approve Disney-Fox merger. Disney owns ESPN and, to avoid concentration in the sector, it must get rid of Fox Sports. The same process took place in Mexico, ordered by the Telecommunications Federal Institute (IFT).

The sports OTT DAZN has expressed to be interested in buying Fox Sports in Brazil. The OTT actually has the rights to broadcast football matches from Brazilian Third Division championship. Apart from that, it also has an active agreement with Rede TV for the South American Cup and Italian Championship’s rights sublicenses.
