Disney broadcasts the Brazilian championship on ESPN and Star +

Disney began broadcasting matches of the Brasileirão soccer tournament throughout Latin America through the ESPN Pay TV service and its recently launched OTT, Star +. Until now, the only streaming service that was allowed to show the championship for the region had been Brasileirao Play, the Fanatiz platform. On the other hand, on pay TV it could only be seen from the Globo TV Internacional signal, but very few matches were transmitted.

In the last month, the broadcast of the tournament within Brazil began to have a series of changes after WarnerMedia announced that it would stop showing the games from 2022. Weeks later, Globo signed with five of the clubs that had been left without a contract for the transmission of the next season, applying the new Mandatory transmissions Law that governs the country.

But as for the rest of Latin America, Disney’s strategy made it possible for the Brasileirão to reach a much larger audience, by offering different possibilities between pay TV and streaming, to avoid the tournament depending on a single channel. From now on, the ten games of the championship will be able to be seen from Star +, nine of them exclusively, while only one will also be transmitted by the ESPN Extra Play signal.
