Discovery has announced this last Thursday, June 24th, that it will launch Discovery+, its new SVOD OTT, in Brazil next September. This way, the platform, whose launch originally took place in the US and Europe at the beginning of this year, confirms its international expansion plans towards Latin America. The launch date and other news about the product will be announced shortly.
‘We are very excited about the launch of Discovery+ in Brazil. The Latin American team is working with first-rate local and global producers on more than 40 titles that will be released until the end of 2022 and, at the same time, is developing more than 150 shows’, reported Fernando Medin, President at Discovery Latin America & US Hispanic.
In addition, and according to the information that has been reported in relation to its content catalog, Discovery+ will offer access to original and exclusive content for the OTT, as well as titles from several of its most representative brands, including Discovery Channel, Discovery Kids, Discovery Home & Health, TLC, Animal Planet, ID, Discovery Turbo, Food Network and HGTV.
‘These titles will strengthen the content offering created for Discovery+ in the US and the international market, which includes more than 200 new original titles ready to be released in 2022, and much more to come’, Medin completed.
The announcement of the launch of Discovery+ in Brazil, the first market in which the platform will be available in Latin America according to the information reported so far, takes place days after Discovery Inc. has confirmed its merger with WarnerMedia (AT&T), in order to create a new standalone company, called ‘Warner Bros Discovery‘, which will be led by David Zaslav, current CEO at Discovery.
