DirecTV would be working on a new Android TV STB for DirecTV GO

According to the ‘Android TV Guide’ website, the DTH operator DirecTV (AT&T) would be working on the launch of a new STB with Android TV, in version 10. According to the already mentioned website, the device will be used in Latin America for the SVOD OTT DirecTV GO.

Android TV Guide reported that the company that made the STB is Skyworth, and its SoC is Amlogic S905X2. In addition, the device has the Netflix app integrated. Up to now, no DirecTV executive has officially expressed himself about the new device, nor has a launch date or the name that the new box will feature have been reported.

Apart from DirecTV, there are several companies that operate in Latin America and have launched or are working on the launch of SBTs with the Android TV operating system. According to Android TV Guide, the list is made up of Algar Telecom (Brazil); Amplia (Amplia TV – Trinidad and Tobago); Antel (Antel Box – Uruguay); Cabletica (Costa Rica); Cable Color (Honduras); Dish Mexico (Netbox); Emcali (Emcali TV – Colombia); Entel (Entel TV – Chile); Televisa (Izzi Telecom – izzi TV – Mexico); Liberty Puerto Rico (Hub TV – Puerto Rico); Megacable (Xview+ – Mexico); +Movil (Cable & Wireless – Total TV – Panama); Movistar (Argentina); Oi (Smart Box and Streaming Box – Brazil); TCC (Uruguay); Telecom Argentina (FlowBox – F1); Tigo (Millicom -ONEtv); VTR (d-Box Smart – Chile); and WOM (Chile). Most of the STBs mentioned have the Netflix and / or Amazon Prime Video apps integrated.
