DAZN to broadcast basketball matches in Brazil since October

The Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), basketball championship organized by the Brazilian Liga Nacional de Basquete (LNB) in that country, and which begins next October 12th with the match between Minas and Flamengo (last champion) teams, will have all its matches broadcast live thanks to an agreement with DAZN. According to what newspaper Estado de Sao Paulo officially reported, the total investment made to meet that goal was valued at R$ 4 million (USD 959 thousand).

According to the agreement, DAZN will broadcast 125 matches from the competition: 12 from the qualifying stage; eight from the playoffs and five for the finals. Broadcasts will be made from Monday to Friday for DAZN subscribers in Brazil.

‘The NBB grows every year and we are excited to partner with the LNB and make the best of Brazilian basketball available on DAZN. With this agreement, we aim to offer basketball fans subscribers what they expects from the platform: exclusivity, frequency and relevance’, said Sérgio Floris, Rights and Original Content  Vice President at DAZN. The company will also offer extra content from the competition, such as interviews and the best moments of each match, among others.

Kouros Monadjemi, LNB’s President, also expressed himself on the agreement. “We had the audacity to implement the multiplatform concept during the last  LNB season and we were very happy to strengthen and expand this idea, which worked. The arrival of DAZN is a key event for the LNB, because it is a very strong partner, which is strengthened daily in the market. This partnership is very positive in the NBB digital content distribution. We are very excited’, he said.

In Brazil, DAZN already broadcasts the English, French and Italian football championship, apart from the Copa Sudamericana and other sports such as boxing, tennis and motor racing. The Brazilian Band channel renewed to broadcast the LNB matches for three years, which will be shown on Saturdays. The channel also agreed to broadcast NBA games twice a week. Band Sports, the Bandeirantes de Comunicação Group pay-TV channel, will not have the NBB available  in its programming grid.
