Conmebol confirms schedule to resume the Copa Libertadores

After Conmebol confirmed its decision to resume the Copa Libertadores right next September 15th, the entity reported yesterday the fixture dates and times of the competition matches, which was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

In mid-December 2018, Conmebol officially awarded the club’s broadcasting rights to tournaments for the 2019-2022 period, valid for the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana. In the case of the Copa Conmebol Libertadores, Globo has exclusivity to broadcast matches that are played on Tuesdays or Wednesdays (one match per week) on FTA TV in Brazil. Likewise, Fox Sports and Sportv are allowed to broadcast all the matches of the tournament played on Tuesdays and Wednesdays on pay TV, while matches disputed on Thursdays are exclusive to Facebook in the country. The broadcast of the Final of the competition will be exclusive to Globo and Fox Sports.

In the case of the rest of Latin American countries (which Conmebol names as ‘Spanish-speaking South American countries’), the Conmebol Libertadores matches that are played on Tuesdays or Wednesdays will be broadcast exclusively on Facebook (one match per week); while Fox Sports has the rights to broadcast all the matches that are played on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. For Thursday’s matches, they are all exclusive to Facebook, while the Final of the competition will be exclusive to Facebook and Fox Sports.

In early March, Conmebol announced the renewal of the agreement between Facebook and Fox Sports to share Conmebol Libertadores 2020 matches, available for Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. In addition, also at the beginning of March, almost a year after the merger between The Walt Disney Company and 21st Century Fox was made official, some of the Copa Libertadores fixture dates began to be broadcast on ESPN screens as well.

Conmebol reported that, in case any of the participating clubs needs to make changes on the city, stadium or country to dispute the remaining Copa Libertadores matches, it can send a request until August 20th for its evaluation and approval.
