Xumo, Comcast’s AVOD OTT, has announced the launch of three linear Spanish-language Telemundo channels as part of its catalog. The new channels are ‘Telemundo al dia’; ‘Telemundo Realities’ and ‘Telemundo Novelas’. According to the information reported, the channels are part of a long-term partnership, which will offer more than 3 thousand hours of Telemundo content on the platform. TV channels added to Xumo features scripted shows, reality shows, news, sports, and more content.
‘Telemundo is a brand that features the highest caliber of Spanish content available, and adding these exclusive channels to Xumo is an important’, said Stefan Van Engen, SVP, Content Programming & Acquisitions at Xumo. “The agreement means the beginning of a valuable and ongoing partnership, which will bring the best curated programming to our growing Hispanic audience in the US’, added the executive. Peter Blacker, Chief Commercial Officer & Head of D2C at NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, has also expressed himself on the new partnership with Xumo, stating that ‘as Latin audiences continue to drive non-linear video consumption in the US, we are delighted to partner with Xumo to expand our cross-platform approach to feed the broadcast appetite of this young, vibrant and multilingual demographic group’. In addition, the executive expressed that the partnership with Xumo ‘offers Telemundo Enterprises the opportunity of being closer to incremental audiences in Spanish and English, and strengthen our position as the choice and voice of the Hispanic community in the US’.
The announcement of the platform took place almost at the same time that FlixLatino, SomosNext’s SVOD OTT, which also offers content in Spanish for US Hispanic audiences, made the decision to add two linear TV channels to its catalog, focused on children’s content, series, documentaries and movies. In addition, in the AVOD field, Univision has announced on Monday, February 1st, the acquisition of Vix, one of the main AVOD OTTs in the market.
