Colombian Government reduces taxes on mobile operators and TV channels

Karen Abudinen, Information and Communications Technologies Minister, reported that, through a resolution, the Colombian Government will reduce taxes on mobile operators and TV channels from 2.2% to 1.9% from next July 1st.

‘With this measure, the Government reduces taxes on mobile operators and TV channels, to protect job positions in the country during quarantine, since we are offering economic relief to telecommunications networks and services suppliers. The same measure applies for TV service ones, the country’s main media’, Abudinen explained. The resources obtained from these taxes are used to support the Information Technologies Fund.

The resolution also establishes that, in the case of the FTA TV service, provided by operators that remain in the enablement transition regime and the sound broadcasting service, ‘the value of the compensation will continue to be governed by the relevant special regulations’.
