Brazil’s Globo launches 4K HDR content

Brazilian broadcaster Globo has announced the launch of its first product in High Dynamic Range (HDR) version. The miniseries “Dangerous Liaisons” is already available on the VOD platform Globo Play.  Globo is “the first company to produce and distribute content in 4K HDR”, the company said in a statement.

In the coming days, the company will also offer a compact of the Olympic Games opening ceremony in 4K HDR and other programs of its catalog. To access the content, users must have 4K HDR compatible devices.

HDR technology provides images with greater definition of colors and contrast, and according to Globo, it allows the audience to see “more details and tones between the black and white colors”.

The conversion of “Dangerous Liaisons” from SDR to HDR demanded that every scene went through a process of redefinition of colors.

Raymundo Barros, CTO of Globo, said that the Company has been capturing content that could be finished in HDR for at least three years. “Now we are able to distribute such content in Brazil”, he added.
