Brazilian pay TV market falls again in March

According to data from regulator Anatel, Brazilian pay TV industry lost nearly 10,000 subscribers (-0.05%) in March, 2017, and ended the period with a total base of 18.6 million. The DTH provider SKY was the operator with the greatest growth during the month (+1.69%).

In March, SKY added 88,000 subscribers and reached 5.3 million total customers. América Móvil group, which includes Net, Claro and Blue, lost 56,000 customers and totaled 9.7 million clients. Oi added 17,000 subscribers to reach 1.3 million. Vivo lost about 14,000 customers and ended March with 1.6 million subscribers.

In the last twelve months, the subscriber base of the Brazilian market fell by 338,000 customers (-1.78%). In this same period, IPTV grew 22.65% with the entry of more than 40,000 subscribers. The rest of the technologies fell. The biggest fall was registered by DTH services, which in one year lost 206,000 subscribers (-1.89%).
